Mazda has pledged to make its automatic emergency braking technology standard on new vehicles by 2022.

What Mazda Cars Have Automatic Emergency Braking?

These days, safety in your vehicle goes well beyond seatbelts and airbags. In fact, many Mazda models have a wide range of high tech safety features available through the i-ACTIVSENSE safety suite, one of which is an automatic braking system called Smart Brake Support or Smart City Brake Support. If this is a feature you’re interested in, you’ll likely want to know what Mazda cars have automatic emergency braking.

Like we said, Mazda’s automatic emergency braking systems are split into two types: Smart Brake Support and Smart City Brake Support. The difference between the two is that Smart Brake Support can minimize or prevent collisions at speeds of 10 mph or faster by automatically applying the brakes if necessary. Smart City Brake Support is similar, except that it is designed for speeds from 2 to 18 mph.

Is automatic emergency braking standard on Mazda cars?

At the moment, these automatic emergency braking features are available through the i-ACTIVSENSE safety package. This is typical throughout the automotive world, which is why Mazda is partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to change this.

Mazda has announced that it is committing to making its automatic emergency braking technology a universally standard feature for all new vehicles by Sept. 1, 2022. The president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations had this to say:

“Mazda’s safety philosophy is based on understanding, respecting and trusting the driver, because driving matters. To that end, Mazda is committed to implementing both passive and active safety technologies on our vehicles to help drivers in unpredictable driving situations.”
