The base trim level for both models comes equipped with the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter engine. It’s an engine that has impressed through its use in both the Mazda3 and CX-5 models in the past. Under the hood of the CX-3 the engine delivers 146 horsepower and 146 lb.-ft. of torque. With the CX-5, the engine is capable of offering a little more power with 155 horsepower and 150 lb.-ft. of torque.

The CX-5, however, is unique in this comparison as it also offer the 2.5-liter SKYACTIV engine. With this engine, the CX-5 puts out 184 horsepower and 185 lb.-ft. of torque.
