How Does Mazda High Beam Control Work?

One of the features you might find on your new Mazda is High Beam Control. But how does Mazda High Beam Control work, and what does it do exactly? We’re here to explain it to you so that you can get the most out of your Mazda’s technology features.

The idea behind the High Beam Control (HBC) system is to provide drivers with automatic high beam headlights when the driving conditions are right. This also alleviates the need to switch them off when a car is approaching, keeping everyone safe.

The HBC system will only switch to high beams when the following conditions are met:

  • When driving at speeds above 18 mph
  • When there are no cars in front of you
  • When there are no cars approaching you heading in the opposite direction

The HBC system will switch back to low beams in the following situations:

  • When a car is approaching you headed in the opposite direction
  • When you are approaching a vehicle
  • When the streets are already well lit
  • When traveling under 12 mph

How to Turn On Mazda High Beam Control

  1. Start by turning the headlight switch to AUTO.
  2. Then, push the headlight lever forward. This will place it in the high beam position.
  3. To determine if the system has actually turned on, turn your eyes to the instrument panel. You should see a green headlight icon with an “A” to indicate that the system is indeed turned on. When the system switches to the high beams, however, you will just see a solid blue icon.
