rear end collision

How Does Mazda Smart City Brake Support Work?

It’s a fact that rear-end collisions are the most frequently-occurring accidents, and most of them happen at low speeds. Fortunately for Bergen County drivers, Mazda technology is working to prevent these rear-end collisions from even taking place. Smart City Brake Support is perfect for drivers who frequent heavy traffic and urban congestion. This is perfect for New Jersey drivers who have to spend a lot of time in New York City. Mazda Smart City Brake Support

Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) uses a windshield-mounted laser sensor the monitors and senses the vehicle in front of yours. The SCBS system can detect a potential collision as long as the car is traveling under 18 miles per hour. When the system detects a potential collision, it helps to prepare your brakes to quickly and effectively stop your vehicle. If the driver does not either apply the brakes or steer to avoid the potential collision, SCBS automatically applies the brakes and reduces engine output in hopes of avoiding, or at least reducing, the extent of the crash.

The SCBS system also works while driving in reverse when traveling below 5 miles per hour.

* SCBS may not perform as expected due to factors such as the shape of the vehicle in front (some shapes do not reflect laser well, etc.), bad weather (rain, snow, fog, etc.), and road conditions (multiple curves, etc.).

* SCBS is designed to reduce the risk of accidents by helping the driver avoid frontal collisions at slow speeds. However the system has its limitations, and no safety system or combination of such systems can prevent all accidents. These systems are not a replacement for safe and attentive driving. Please drive carefully at all times and do not rely on technology to prevent an accident. Not all of these systems are available on all models or in all markets, so please contact your local Mazda dealer for details on availability. Please refer to your owners’ manual for additional important system details, limitations and warnings.
