Many drivers may not realize their car even has this feature, making it a welcome surprise for those who do a lot of cargo carrying. Of course, you’ll need to know how to fold down the rear seats in the Mazda 3 before you can start taking advantage of all the spacious cargo area.

In order to ensure that you have enough space for both your cargo and for front-seat passengers to sit comfortably, you may want to first remove the headrests from the rear seats. This will allow you to fold down the seats all the way while still having plenty of legroom in front.

  1. Open the trunk.
  2. Locate the seat release levers on the top side of the trunk cargo area. Pull the lever corresponding to the seat back you want to fold down.
  3. Enter the cabin through one of the rear doors and pull the seat forward. The seat should adjust easily if you have activated the seat release lever.
  4. When you’re ready to place the seats upright again, simply pull the seat back toward the rear of the vehicle to its upright position. You should notice it lock in place when it is in the proper position. You can pull on the seat back to test this.
