2017 Mazda CX-5 Powertrain Options

The 2017 CX-5 has three engine options available, a 2.0-liter or 2.5-liter gasoline engine, or a 2.2-liter clean diesel engine. Each of these engines is paired with either a 6-speed SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic transmission or a 6-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission.

Available on the Mazda CX-5 is the predictive i-ACTIV AWD system. i-ACTIV AWD distributes torque between the front and rear wheels. It is constantly monitoring road conditions in real-time and watching for tiny variations in wheel speed. i-ACTIV AWD proactively controls the distribution of torque, making driving on poor road surfaces more efficient by eliminating wasteful tire-slippage.

The i-ACTIV AWD system has sensors that monitor factors like accelerator position, steering angle and brake fluid pressure. It also monitors road surface conditions and how slippery the road surface is. i-ACTIV AWD precisely measures the speed of all four wheels and detects warning signs that indicate the wheels may be in danger of slipping.
