2014 Mazda6 Diesel Engine to Hit U.S. Next Spring

The 2.2-liter Clean Diesel engine will be capable of 310 lb-ft of torque.

For those of you who have been anticipating the 2014 Mazda6 Diesel U.S. release date, there is some bad news. The manufacturer announced earlier this month that the fuel-efficient engine will be postponed until the end of next spring. Instead of the end of the year—when the official release was originally planned—it will arrive in April when the final stages of emissions testing and certification are completed. Mazda will be the first Japanese car manufacturer to have a diesel engine powering a car in the states. Here at Mazda of Lodi, we can’t wait to allow our customers the chance to reap all of the benefits of diesel engines.

It’s believed that the cause of the delay is the strict emissions standards for diesel in America. They are some of the toughest emissions tests in the world to pass, which is why many manufacturers have strayed from putting the engines under the hood of their U.S. models.
