On top of the most elite safety rating possible, the 2014 Mazda6 is capable of travelling 38 mpg on the highway.

Last year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety decided to up their standards. This means that new cars flaunting a Top Safety Pick rating are no longer the safest cars available. IIHS has added a new small overlap front test and those who are able to pass it with nothing less than an acceptable score, are getting a Top Safety Pick+ rating. 2014 Mazda6 in New Jersey

The 2014 Mazda6 is capable of 40 mpg highway thanks in part to the engine’s SKYACTIV technology.

You can’t call a car “the game changer” and just leave it at that. With a name like that, you have to be able to back up your claim. Not surprisingly, backing up the new Mazda6 is child’s play. It is a Mazda after all. Everything down to the paint color was considered when making the 6. It requires a three-step painting process to produce a dark bold red that Mazda has called “Soul Red.” It has us sold. We’re going to let you in on a little secret, but first let’s look at what the 2014 Mazda6 has to offer.

Normally we save the best for last, but it’s hard to contain our excitement about the fuel rating of the 6. The 2.5-liter 184 horse SKYACTIV engine has been estimated at 40 mpg highway. The fact that this is a fuel-only car is almost unbelievable. The SKYACTIV engines are really killing it for Mazda. The technology is a large part of the reason that Mazda is putting up these insane fuel-economy ratings. We’ll touch on SKYACTIV later. For now let’s stick to the Mazda6.
