Miata fans wonder if this year’s birthday celebration will include a sight of the fourth generation Mazda MX-5.

Fourth Generation Mazda MX-5

The New York Auto Show kicks off April 18 and Mazda fans have reason to expect big things from the fabled automaker. According a recent press release from Mazda USA, the zoom-zoom manufacturer is planning a 25th anniversary party for the Mazda MX-5 Miata that will coincide with the international auto show. To quote Mazda directly, “…the Big Apple will host the biggest birthday party yet for the storied two-seat roadster.”

Everything starts at the New York Auto Show on April 18.

While complete details surrounding this anniversary party are not known at the moment, many are suggesting that Mazda may use the celebration as a platform to reveal the fourth generation Mazda MX-5 Miata. After all, recent reports suggested that Mazda may use New York to partially display the next-gen coupe—showing only the car’s SkyActiv chassis, however. Unless there is some serious internal debate that still surrounds major Miata details, it is no stretch of the imagination to think that Mazda, planning on showing a chassis in NYC, could undoubtedly show the entire automobile as well.

Though a fourth generation Mazda MX-5 can’t be confirmed for the April auto show at this time, we know Mazda is planning a display that expresses the MX-5’s evolution through its 25-year history. This will be separate from Mazda’s main exhibit—featuring 15 MX-5 roadsters that range from concept to race mod to production model.

Considering the concept of the celebration and the fact that it’s planned as the “biggest birthday party yet” for Miata, the timing seems right for the world to get acquainted with the fourth generation Mazda MX-5. As far as auto show time tables are concerned as well, New York is the only major auto show on the horizon before Paris in October, and the only major American show until Los Angeles in November. Of course, nothing is ready until it is ready. But, at the very least, Miata fans are more than ready to catch a glimpse of the 2015 Mazda MX-5 roadster.
