Will the Mazda CX-4 Be Released in the US?

For some time now, rumors have been swirling around the internet that Mazda may be on the verge of releasing a new crossover model. There have even by early photos that have surfaced of this vehicle, something we have covered before on this blog. But now, we can officially confirm that Mazda is producing a brand new crossover, named the CX-4. The question to ask right now, however, is will the Mazda CX-4 be released in the US?

Mazda announced that the CX-4 will be officially unveiled in April at the Beijing Motor Show. Of course, where a vehicle is revealed is never any certain indication of where the vehicle will actually be produced or sold.

That being said, a report from Automotive News suggests the CX-4 will be sold only in China for now. The fact that Mazda has announced the CX-4 on its global media site and not its US media site seems to suggest the same. We will keep our hopes up for now, but with great SUV models like the CX-3, CX-5 and CX-9, we hardly feel left out.

What We Know About the New Mazda CX-4

Well, for one, we expect it to be based on Mazda’s Koeru concept model that we saw several months ago. Mazda has yet to reveal sufficient images for determining the vehicle’s overall design, but the image you can see here does show a back end that seems to be similar to the Koeru concept, pictured in the image above.

The Koeru crossover concept was sleek and low, and we imagine it would be a sporty thing to drive. Though Mazda has yet to reveal any drivetrain specs for the CX-4, we expect that to be the case.

Unfortunately, we will likely have to wait until the official reveal to find out for sure if the Mazda CX-4 will be released in the US, but it seems unlikely at this point. Still, if we’re lucky, it’s possible we could see the new crossover in the US after Mazda measures its performance in China, but until then, be sure to stay tuned to the Mazda of Lodi blog for the latest updates.
