2018 Mazda CX-5 Safety Features and Fuel Economy
Shoppers with safety in mind will appreciate the CX-5 being named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), while the 2018 Cherokee was not.
The CX-5 offers drivers a number of advanced safety features that are standard on base level CX-5 (Sport) models but are not available on base Jeep Cherokee (Latitude) models, including Blind Spot Monitoring, Forward Obstruction Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Additionally, the CX-5 also offers an optional Lane Departure Warning System on Sport models. Base model Latitude models of the Cherokee don't offer that feature, either.
In addition to safety and security, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 offers drivers impressive fuel economy. Despite having similar base model engines (187-hp, 2.5-liter I-4 vs. 184-hp, 2.4-liter I-4), the SKYACTIV-G engine of the Mazda CX-5 offers an EPA-estimated 25 city and 31 highway mpg - compare that to the Cherokee's 21 city and 30 highway mpg projections.
